The world is an evolving place – especially in the world of business. Having a mobile has become one of the most essential pieces of kit you could have in your arsenal, but with so many offers and types of phone on the market, it can be hard to know what you need.
Well good news – we’re here to give you a helping hand!
In this blog we’re going to go through your options including; the mobiles that are out there, the data you may require, and how you can evolve your plan when you need it.
There’s a number of different handsets on the market currently – but the market is dominated by three large players, Apple being the largest in most cases. There’s also a huge amount of business which prefer to use Samsung/Android for various reasons so it’s worth identifying what you require within your business and which manufacturer best meets your needs before looking too far into the deals.
Apple is a good option if you’re wanting something that’s widely accepted, but Samsung may be the way to go if you’re wanting something that’s adaptable and can be locked down slightly easier.
Typically, it’s best to go with what you understand and currently use, that way, it’s a smooth transition as cloud backups & migrations are typically a lot easier if you run with the same brand you already use. Having said that moving to a different handset is very possible as a lot of apps hold cloud data, meaning you can switch without an issue – it’s completely up to you.
One of the most important areas of consideration is the coverage of your data plan. It’s worth checking the providers you’re interested in to ensure they can cater for you needs, especially if your job involves being on the road and you’re travelling to many places.
Check coverage maps (such as Ofcom’s coverage map) to ensure you aren’t left with dead spots when you need data the most.
Identifying your use of your data is your next stop. You may primarily use your data for ringing other employees or customers, but some people do end up needing higher speeds for video calls and conferencing. It’s worth considering:
– Do you need to livestream video or place a large number of video calls when out on the road?
– Do you often find you need to hotspot off your phone to download large files when travelling?
– Are you out & about most of the time off of Wi-Fi or are you predominantly office based and on the company network?
– Do you travel abroad and need roaming capabilities?
– Do the apps you commonly use require more data?
If roaming is on your shopping list, you’ll need to investigate your usage overseas as international minutes and bundles are typically offered at an additional charge. If you do require this, browsing providers and their offering is a compulsory stage for you. You may not have customers overseas specifically, but you could be someone who works whilst taking a holiday. It’s nothing to be ashamed of – it’s actually more common than you think. There’s actually been research carried out which refers to employees working whilst on their booked annual leave.
Making sure you can use your mobile without additional costs is important as nobody likes a chunky bill at the end of the month which you weren’t expecting.
Through hard work and determination, you may be able to expand your army. That’s a good thing and congratulations! Getting this this point does also come with some key areas you need to be mindful of.
– Are you able to add additional handsets or SIMs to your current plan? If not, it might be worth exploring your opens to expand elsewhere.
– Can you make amends without an additional charge? If yes – great! If not, again, it might be worth exploring your switching options, so you’re not caught out by expensive additional charges.
– Does your current provider offer shared data pools? Data pools can be incredibly useful if you’re looking for flexibility. They’re commonly used in environments where employees might be on the road on more of an adhoc basis. Flexibility is where you can really make the most of your contract.
Time is money. That’s the short of it. The last thing you’d want is to be sat in a queue on the phone when you’ve got much more important things to worry about. Some providers can offer priority lines to account managers (typically if your contract is large enough) and some also offer higher quality customer support as standard.
Browsing the web and seeing what others think of customer support for possible providers could be your decision maker. Take 5 and have a look, see what you think and go from there.
